Erwin Binder was born on January 24, 1934 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Following a brief period at Temple University, he joined the U.S. Air Force in 1952. He spent most of his enlistment staioned near the border of Mexico. This time greatly shaped his interests.

Following his retirement from military service he spent twenty years working for the family jewelry business. It was there that he learned to cast metal and work with stone. Working in jewlery eventually became too confining and he chose to pursue his artistic interests by enrolling at the Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles. He found inspiration in the works of Jose Clemente Orozco.

During the 1970s and 1980s he was at his most productive and created many public sculptures for Southern Californian clients. His favorite materials were onyx and stone.

I would like to know more about Erwin Binder and would certainly like a picture of him. If any friends or descendents could help out I would deeply appreciate it.
