Ernest Lauser began carving and assisted a commercial artist before he was 10 years old. At age 12 in 1929 he won the Proctor & Gamble soap carving contest. He worked as a freelance sculptor from 1945 to 1958. From 1958 to 1965 he worked for the Commercial Art Service and then finally, he worked for the Franklin Mint until his official retirement in 1978.
