The obverse bears bust of Greek woman with long braided hair before columns. Around, (*) MASSACHUSETTS INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY (*) / DEPARTMENT OF ARCHITECTURE
The reverse bears decorative border with cresting waves around square center panel with engraved dedication, BOSTON SOCIETY / OF ARCHITECTS / PRIZE. / 1921-22. / R. HAYWARD.
The edge is marked GORHAM CO.
Roger Hayward (1899-1979) was a talented artist, architect and inventor. Hayward won this award while he was still a student at MIT. After working as an architect for a few years he moved to California and worked with Linus Pauling, for whom he illustrated many books and journal publications. He is also remembered as an expert in the field of optics and played an important role in the development of the Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope.
The dies for this medal were used by MIT for a number of different awards, including the F.W. Chandler Prize and the School Medal Prize, with the hand-engraved inscription being appropriately worded for each.
The medal was struck in bronze by Gorham Co. Neither mintage nor artist are known. Any additional information would be welcome.

This medal's obverse bears female gas spirit rising from ground, holding burning torch; in background, modern gas refinery and storage tank. Across, AMERICAN - GAS / INSTITU - TE / BEAL / MEDAL.
The reverse shows a blank cartouche, torches and laurels. Signed at bottom right, C.BEACH.
The American Gas Institute was an amalgamation of various regional gas light companies that worked on promoting scientific research and technological development to help with the production, distribution and consumption of gas. The Beal Medal was awarded annually to the best research or invention in the Institute's areas of interest.
My copy of this medal is actually in two pieces. Both obverse and reverse are struck in thick medal stock and each has been fitted with two pins in back to hold them on a cardboard base. Apparently, the pieces came from Chester Beach's studio collection and probably represent trial strikes that the artist kept for himself.
This medal measures 50mm in diameter and was struck in bronze and silver by the Medallic Art Company of New York.

The uniface medal bears a massive steam shovel in a strip mine, loaded bucket at left. Around, PEABODY COAL COMPANY · BUCYRUS · ERIE COMPANY / · FOR THE FUTURE OF COAL ·
Neither of the two commemorated companies exist anymore. Peabody Coal filed for bankruptcy in 2016 and Bucyrus Erie, a company that was heavily into coal equipment and mining, was acquired by Caterpillar in 1997.
With the advent of Global Warming concerns, coal production and use in the U.S. came under heavy regulation, until it became unprofitable for many companies during the Obama administration. This medal is a great memento of a bygone industrial period.
The circular medal measures 75.8mm in diameter and was struck in bronze by the Medallic Art Company of New York. No mintage is reported.

The uniface medallion's obverse bears muscular, bare-armed and gloved worker, facing right, removing a tire from an open mold. From number at left, text running around upper edge, 25 - YEAR OF FRIENDLY SERVICE; in exergue, (GOODYEAR logo) / THE GREATEST NAME / IN RUBBER; signed to right of mold, (RC monogram)
This is the 25 year version of Rene Chambellan's Goodyear series of medallions. All of these medallions came mounted to a wooden board to be hung in offices or shops that were selling Goodyear product. The mounting is done via a drilled, threaded pin that is affixed to the center of the medallion.
This medallion has Chambellan going back to one of his fortés: the depiction of industrial workers at their places of work. Few American medallic sculptors did that as well as Chambellan.
Dick Johnson's reference does not list the set number for this medallion, so I follow his practice and list it with an x for unknown.
The circular medallion measures 102mm in diameter and is struck in bronze by the Medallic Art Company of New York. No mintage is reported.
At least my examplar of this medallion is silver-plated. Whether that was done by the Medallic Art Company or whether the recipient performed an "upgrade" on the medallion is unknown. For now, I list the one known variant as made of bronze until I receive more feedback from other collectors.

Francis Keally (1889 - 1978) was a New York architect and designer whose major works can be found in the the Public Library in Berlin, Germany, the Brooklyn Public Library, the Oregon State Capitol and the expansion of the Detroit Public Library. In addition to his architectural projects, Keally was an avid supporter of preserving the artistic works of others. He also served as president of the Municipal Art Society, as well as president of the Fine Arts Federation.
The National Sculpture Society only awards its Medal of Honor as the occasion arises. Notable recipients include Archer Huntington, Daniel Chester French, Joseph Veach Noble, Elliot Offner, Neil Estern, Stanley Bleifeld and James J. Jennewein. You are certainly in good company if you have received this medal.
