The medal's obverse bears jungle scene populated by many animals, all of which represent species on the brink of extinction. Animals include the "Sumatran Rhino", the "Mountain Gorilla", the "Black Caiman", the "Birdwing Butterfly", and the elephant. Signed at left bottom, EVERHART

This was the 25th of the prestigious Brookgreen Gardens member medals, issued in 1997.
Ten years earlier, Elizabeth Gordon Chandler's husband Laci de Gerenday designed the fiftteenth Brookgreen Gardens medal. This is the only case of a husband and wife creating medals for the series.

The medal's obverse bears globe surrounded by pyramid of animals, including pair of dolphins at bottom, rhinoceros, gorilla, lion, kangaroo, crane, bear, mountain lion, panda, eagle, topped by peace dove.
The reverse bears globe surrounded by month segments. On globe, incuse, 2001; in ring around globe, PEACE / HOPE / HARMONY
The medal was modeled by Don Everhart II but the designer is not yet known to me. Maybe someone can help out with that information.
