The Dolphin Jute Company converted hemp and jute into twine, rope, and carpet backing. By 1881, the firm was the largest jute factory in the U.S. The firm eventually went out of business in the late 1950s.
This medal measures 76mm (3in) in diameter and was struck in bronze by the Whitehead & Hoag Company of Newark, New Jersey. I don't know the medal's designer and would appreciate any information you might have.
