The Independent Order of Odd Fellows was founded on the North American Continent in Baltimore, Maryland, on April 26, 1819 when Thomas Wildey and four members of the Order from England instituted Washington Lodge No. 1. This lodge received its charter from Manchester Unity of Odd Fellows in England. At that time, the city was suffering both a yellow fever epidemic and mass unemployment so they dedicated the organization to "Visit the sick, relieve the distress, bury the dead and educate the orphans."

The circular medal measures 51mm in diameter.  No mintage is known.

The dates on the medal are numbered in the masonic calendar, which can be a bit confusing to non-masons, but we can simply subtract 4,000 from the numbers to get the "common" calendar years. Washington advanced quickly through the apprenticeship stage to emerge a master mason at the young age of 21.

The medal was designed by Isaac F. Wood and the dies were cut by George H. Lovett. It measures 51mm in diameter and was struck in bronze.  It appears to be a pretty rare medal though I am not aware of its exact mintage.

Colonel Daniel Coxe (1673-1739) is a colorful person in American history. He was the son of Dr. Daniel Coxe, who was the exceedingly wealthy Royal Physician of King Charles II and Queen Anne. Coxe Sr. had purchased extensive land grants in the colonies, including a parcel of land called "Carolana" which included present day Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Tennessee, Aransaw, and Oklahoma. Despite owning such huge tracts of land and being the Governor of West Jersey, he never left England. His son is thought to have come to the New World in 1701.  He became generally despised by the Quaker population whom he repressed and persecuted and finally lost a lot of influence when the new Governor ousted him from various leadership positions in 1713.  He left for England to regroup and build a new powerbase and returned in 1723, setting the stage for the infamous Coxe Affair. He had worked diligently to have the sale of a large tract of land by his father declared invalid and threatened the current inhabitants with eviction. By subverting the legal system, he managed to win his case, which led to outright violent rebellion.

The circular medal measures 76.1mm in diameter and was struck in bronze. Neither mint nor mintage are known to me.
