The medal's obverse bears view of L. Bamberger & Co.'s Newark flagship store.
The reverse bears legend within wreath, L. BAMBERGER Co. / NEWARK, N.J. / 1893 - 1912
Louis Bamberger (1855-1944) was born in Baltimore and came to Newark in 1892. He purchased the bankrupt dry goods emporium Hill & Craig at auction. and renamed it L. Bamberger & Company. Under Bamberger’s leadership, the store became very successful. In 1912 he opened the first section of his completely redone store to the public. This is the event commemorated by this medal. He eventually sold his empire to Macy's, which kept the Bamberger brand alive till 1986. The Newark store was finally closed in 1991.
The circular medal measures 74.6mm in diameter and was probably struck by Whitehead & Hoag of Newark, New Jersey, but I can't be sure because the medal bears neither an artist's signature nor maker's marks. Any additional information would be welcome.

Josiah K. Lilly Sr. (1861-1948) started working at Eli Lilly and Co., the company his father had founded, when he was 14 years old, eventually becoming chairman of the board.
Lilly was also a philanthropist who supported the projects of charitable and civic organizations in Indianapolis and in Indiana. The galvano's obverse bears bust of Earl B. Barnes, a director of Medallic Art Company, facing left. Above, · EARL · B · BARNES ·; signed and dated at lower right, (JSR monogram) / 1935
In the late 1930's, John Curlee Trees, the owner of Medallic Art Company, engaged John R. Sinnock, then working as engraver at the U.S. Mint, to design five portrait medals of MACo's Board of Directors. Medallic Art Company usually created at least one large galvano for each medal they produced. This plaque comes from the family of one of the Directors. Whether all Directors received one or whether this is a unique piece is hard to establish but I'd appreciate hearing from anyone who has another one or can provide additional information.
The galvano plaque measures approximately 305mm (12") in diameter and was produced by the Medallic Art Company of New York.

The medal's obverse bears idealized forest scene with with doe nuzzling fawn on left side and owls perched on pine branch on right side. Signed at bottom, Eliscu
The reverse bears calendar panel flanked by owls with fawn above. At bottom, 1991
This was the 17th medal issued by the Medallic Art Company in its annual calendar medal series. As noted in the brochure that accompanied the medal:
"The 1991 Calendar Medallion by Frank Eliscu is a beautifully sculpted reminder for us to concern ourselves with our environment and to protect animal habitats."
"Beautifully sculpted reminder" is a very aptly chosen phrase because the medal's obverse was reused from the very first medal in the calendar medal series issued in 1975. I don't know what the rationale behind that choice was. Maybe the designs for the next planned medal were running late, maybe the Medallic Art company was in business turmoil at the time, but regardless, Frank Eliscu saw his design used twice in one medal series!
The circular medal measures 76.2mm in diameter and was struck in bronze and (probably) silver by the Medallic Art Company. No mintages are reported.

The unsigned uniface medal bears laughing writer spearing a fat industrialist through his belly with a giant ink pen. At top, APRIL 22ND / 1911; at bottom, ROCHESTER NEWS WRITERS' CLUB
The reverse is empty except for mint mark BASTIAN BROS. / CO. / ROCHESTER N.Y.
The Rochester News Writers' Club was organized sometime around 1902. It held regular weekly meetings and an annual meeting called a "Roastfest,"
On Aprill 22, 1911, it held its eighth Roastfest, which was a political vaudeville show for 350 invited guests and is commemorated by this medal. In all likelihood, this medal was a party favor for the guests.
The scalloped round measures approximately 60mm in diameter and was struck in copper by Bastian Brothers of Rochester, New York. No mintage is reported but can be assumed to be around 350.
